Please see information on Vehicle Insurance below.

What is Vehicle Insurance?

The main use of vehicle insurance in South Africa is to offer cover you for financial losses against your vehicle resulting from accidents, damage and theft.

Should I get Vehicle Insurance?

Unlike many countries across the world vehicle insurance is not compulsory in South Africa but vehicles are expensive purchases so you will want to make sure that they are adequately protected. You might find that should something happen to your vehicle, if it is uninsured, the cost of repairs can be extremely expensive.

How much will it Cost?

The vehicle insurance premium is determined by the insurance company you choose and by a number of other factors that can be determined by:

  • The vehicle itself – whether it is a car, motorbike, caravan, truck, marine vehicle or specialist vehicle
  • Characteristics of the car – whether it is has alarms, airbags etc
  • The level of coverage chosen
  • The driver – including gender, age etc.
  • What the car is used for
  • The length of the policy

Which Cover is right for me?

You will need to think about your personal circumstances when deciding on the right vehicle insurance. You can get insurance specially geared towards young or senior drivers or policies designed for commercial motor vehicles.

Look around the insurance market, weigh up the options and make sure any prospective insurer is clear with you. If you have any questions about the policy, don’t be afraid to ask them. Compare the premiums that are offered and what the fees and costs are.
